Kaya Fest is the brainchild of Stephen Marley, the eight-time Grammy-winning reggae singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and son of Bob Marley. The elder Marley’s classic 1978 album Kaya – along with the song and tour of the same title – was undoubtedly the inspiration for this festival’s name.
Stephen Marley founded Kaya Fest to “educate people to the many uses of the cannabis plant as well as to inspire and encourage positive public awareness especially since more and more states are approving the use of medical marijuana, such as Florida where it recently became legal,” the event’s press release reads.
He won’t be alone onstage. He’s invited just about every Marley out there to take a turn performing, including his brothers Ziggy, Damian, Ky-Mani, and Julian. If you prefer a newer generation of the clan, you can also check out Bob Marley’s grandkids playing as the Third Generation Marley Family, which includes Skip Marley, Yohan Marley, and Mystic Marley.
